How to make a movie playable on your iPod
One way to take any QuickTime movie and convert it to your iPod is to purchase QuickTime Pro. (You can do with a credit card, and receive an email with the number. You can put the number into your existing QuickTime player and the whole thing can be done in less than an hour.)
Once you have QuickTime Pro installed, open the .mov file in the player, and select "export". One of the options in the pop-up menu will be to export for the iPod. It will convert the file to a .m4v file.
In iTunes, select, File -> Add to Library. (import won't work...) Then find the new .m4v file and import it in. The next time you sync, the video should be on your iPod.
There are also shareware/freeware tools that will do it if you don't want to shell out the money for QT Pro. Take a look at http://mac.majorgeeks.com/downloads38.html.
